I’m Mark Wu, a piano technician based in Edmonton and the owner of Perfect Pitch Tuning.

Born in Jiaxing, ZJ, China, I later moved to Sidney, BC for high school, and graduated from the University of Alberta with a double major in Art & Design and Psychology.

My academic background continues to shape the way I work today. Psychology has given me a deeper understanding of how music influences growth—especially for young players, where the tuning condition of a piano can affect brain development and leave a lasting impact on musical perception, sensitivity, and listening skills. It has also influenced the way I interact with clients, helping me create an experience that feels thoughtful, reassuring, and easy, where care extends to people as much as to their instruments. Art & Design strengthened my attention to detail and my commitment to balancing functionality with aesthetics—whether that means ensuring a responsive touch for the player or delivering the purest, most pleasing tone.

My path into piano work was guided by key mentors. A dedicated piano teacher showed me the importance of using the right methods to practice and perform, and the theory behind the proper touch. This perspective allows me to approach every piano not only as a technician, but also with the sensitivity of a player. When my own piano drifted out of tune in my early years of playing, my fascination with hands-on problem solving drew me into studying piano mechanics in depth, as I have always been curious about understanding how things truly work. Later, a veteran piano technician in the local community became my mentor, offering guidance without reservation and providing both training and the solid foundation I needed to grow in this craft. Their influence has shaped my approach to be precise, methodical, and well-grounded.

For me, piano tuning is more than a service—it’s a state of complete focus, being fully in the zone. Adjusting more than 200 strings back into harmony is a process of turning disorder into order. Restoring a piano’s physical ability to produce clear, balanced sound is what ultimately allows it to express the true spirit of music.

Through years of hands-on experience, workshops, and continuous learning, I’ve worked with a wide variety of pianos and come to appreciate the unique potential in each one. For nearly five years, I’ve had the privilege of earning people’s trust and serving Edmonton and its surrounding community with dedication, patience, and care.

At Perfect Pitch Tuning, the guiding principles are: Performance. Perfection. Trust. Tuning is the first performance before any music begins, and the foundation that makes all others possible. Beyond the instruments, it is about supporting the musicians, families, and students who rely on them—helping the circle of music in our community not only continue, but thrive.
